Encaustic is an ancient painting. You should think about 600 years BC. Briefly told, it melted beeswax, did some ingredients and pigments in the waxf and was ready for use. They used hot spatulas (palette knife) to apply the wax. Nowadays there are also other heat sources that people use the wax to melt. Like an iron, heat gun, stylus (pen warm) and hotplate.
